Helsinki region, FinlandNine German architectsThree days, two nights
The group was interested in Finnish school architecture and visited schools, day-care centres, universities and public buildings. Innovative learning spaces are an integral part of the internationally acclaimed Finnish school system. Many of the designs have been selected through architectural competitions. Helsinki and Espoo constitute a growing region with a large number of day-care centre and school construction projects.
The group visited several learning spaces. They particularly appreciated the opportunity to meet both the designers and users of some of the schools. The group also visited a successful architectural agency in Helsinki. Their tour ended with a visit to the Aalto University campus, which was designed by Alvar Aalto. The last day of the trip was dedicated to architectural sites in the centre of Helsinki.
