The Hanasaari power plant area is a familiar landmark in Kalasatama and an essential part of the eastern Helsinki cityscape. Energy production at the power plant ended in 2023, after which the area has been demolished and preparations have been made for its opening. An international idea and implementation competition will be organised for the future use of the power plant and its surroundings, which will start in autumn 2026.
From Helsinki Day 12 June onwards, you will have the opportunity to have a closer look at the plant on our free guided tours! Please register soon, as the Helsinki Day tours are already fully booked.
The opening ceremony will mark the start of a five-year period of experimentation, as Hanasaari opens up to all city residents, outdoor enthusiasts and events. The city invites residents to plan what the area will be used for over the next five years, before construction begins.
Welcome to explore the Hanasaari power plant on our guided tours throughout the summer!
